St. Paschal Baylon Men's Club to host Casino Night fundraiser
      The St. Paschal Baylon Men's Club will host a Casino Night fundraiser on Sat., May 31 at the parish hall, 155 E. Janss Road, Thousand Oaks. Doors and no-host bar will open at 5:30 p.m. and casino games start at 6 p.m. A Texas Hold'em poker tournament will start at 7 p.m.

Documentary to be screened on Jewish matchmaking tradition
      The Conejo Jewish Academy will screen "Match and Marry," a documentary about the tradition of Jewish matchmaking. The film will be shown at 7:30 p.m. Mon., May 19 at the academy, 30345 Canwood St., Agoura Hills. The film features stories of matchmaking, dating and marriage in the Orthodox Jewish community.

Kabbalah and Coffee discussion coming
      The Thousand Oaks Jewish center hosts a Kabbalah and Coffee discussion group for adults from 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesdays at the center, 2060 E. Avenida de Los Arboles, Ste. I, Thousand Oaks. The class, led by Rabbi Chaim Bryski, is discussing a Kabbalistic understanding of heaven and hell. Kabbalah is the mystical side of Judaism.

      As boys, Wynn "Biff" Sherman and John Mueller played Monopoly on their front lawns and baseball in the street, the same street that all their friends lived on. The quiet Woodland Hills neighborhood was typical of the Valley in the '50s and '60s, the site of years of memories.

Young adults needed for Lutheran gathering
      Organizers of the 2009 Youth Gathering of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America are enlisting the help of 800 young adults to be "servant companions" from July 20 to 26. The gathering will attract 36,000 high school youth and adult leaders to New Orleans around the theme "Jesus Justice Jazz.
