Trustee says Measure B gets an F

Conejo Valley Unified School District is being hammered by the governor, who is recommending a $4.6billion reduction in funding for all California schools. This translates into a $8million shortfall for our district. Coupled with declining enrollment, our district is facing draconian cuts to all schools and departments.

Looming on the horizon is Measure B, which will appear on the June 3 ballot. If this measure in enacted, the district will experience significant budgetary cuts that include the following:

•Reduction in developer fees due to reduced commercial development ($1.5 million per year).

•Reduction in pass-through redevelopment income ($10 million over the last decade) due to suppressed commercial development.

•Reduction in the potential market value of the district's surplus property such as Kelly Road with an appraised value of $10.5 million.

•Reduction of commercial development could impact local employment and reduce future district enrollment.

•Reduction in the financial impact to the city would reduce the city's ability to provide direct grants to the district such as the $3.5 million for high school stadiums and $1.5 million for the gym at Sycamore Canyon School.

It is because of the immense negative impact on our district's budge that I urge a no vote on Measure B on June 3. Tim Stephens Vice president CVUSD Board of Education
