      VOICES RING FOR AN APPRECIATIVE AUDIENCE- - Students from the Los Cerritos Middle School choir are directed by Janice Hague as they perform. Last week's event was the Conejo Valley Unified School District's fourth annual All District Choir Festival. The singers performed at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza.

BYU singers perform at high school
      BYU Alumni Association will present the Brigham Young University Singers at 7:30 p.m. Fri., May 2 at Ventura High School, 2 N. Catalina St. The choir's repertoire includes classics, international folk songs and Broadway show tunes. They have performed at Carnegie Hall and with the Tabernacle Choir.

Quick thinkers shine at Cypress
      FAST WITH THEIR BRAIN CELLS- Cypress Elementary School fourth- and fifth-graders show off the Acorn . The kids recently participated in Odyssey of the Mind, a district and state competition for children who think "outside of the box." Also involved was their own skit, which included costumes, props and dialogue.

'Fablehaven' author to read to kids at local schools
      Brandon Mull, author of the "Fablehaven" children's book series, will speak at local schools about the importance of reading and sign his latest book on April 23 in Thousand Oaks. Mull formerly lived in Thousand Oaks and graduated from Westlake High School in 1992.

'Distinguished' honor goes to 3 Conejo schools
      Meadows Elementary, which is slated to close its doors in 2009, is one of three Conejo Valley Unified elementary schools to be named a 2008 California Distinguished School.

      La Reina will hold summer classes for any student entering grades 7 through 12 in the fall. Classes will be held from June 30 to Aug. 1. Course offerings include art, computer skills, dance, math, speech, health and study skills.

      Freedom Alliance has opened the application period for the Military Leadership Academy. The academy aims to educate, motivate and inspire student leaders, and has graduated more than 700 high school students since its inception in 2001.
