Voters should pass Measure B because of traffic
The Traffic Initiative, Measure B, will be decided by voters. Should we the people of Thousand Oaks approve very large developments that will create failing traffic levels of a D, E or F that negatively impact our quality of life and health? Please don't believe the scare tactics put forth by local elected bodies and their cronies. They want to keep their power and don't want you to have the right to vote. The Los Robles expansion isn't subject to Measure B. Additionally, our community needs a second hospital and without a doubt residents will embrace and support good projects. The city used $100,000 of our tax dollars to obtain a report whose own authors admit isn't based on facts but a worst case scenario. They do admit that Thousand Oaks has 6.2 million square feet or 60 big box stores of development planned. Where will it all go? The city's report didn't take into consideration the value of our time or health because it's not important to the city. It's concerned with revenues and spending every cent. If only 15 percent of our population of 130,000, or 19,500 people, spend 15 minutes a day in traffic, this works out annually to 87.5 hours in traffic per person. At only $18 an hour, it comes to $1,575 annually. Multiply 19,500 people- 15 percent of population- and we're wasting over $30 million annually of our time, not counting the costs to our health. No one moved here to have to sit in traffic. The city won't release its Specific Plan for Thousand Oaks Boulevard until after the election. Could it be because it includes multistories on top of retail? This and the closing of two schools will create more traffic. Measure B allows us to decide what projects are right for our town. Please vote for Measure B on June 3. Debbie Gregory Thousand Oaks |
