Voters should pass Measure B because of traffic
The Traffic Initiative, Measure B, will be decided by voters. Should we the people of Thousand Oaks approve very large developments that will create failing traffic levels of a D, E or F that negatively impact our quality of life and health?

Measure B is actually the 'Do-it Center Initiative'
In today's complicated world, it's not often when groups as different as labor unions, seniors and the Chamber of Commerce agree on a single, important issue. But this is exactly what's happening with Measure B, the Doit Center Initiative, in Thousand Oaks.

A life that's lost may save others
I'm sure by now everyone has heard of the tragic death of the 17year-old student-athlete from Newbury Park High School and the serious injuries suffered by four others in a singlecar accident on PCH. Reading the newspaper I learned that drugs and alcohol contributed to the accident.

Teenagers might stay here if there were things to do
Last night we lost yet another Newbury Park High School student. This student and several of his friends were bored so they ventured to Hollywood to see a concert. Why couldn't they have stayed in their own backyard? Because there's nothing for our youth to do in the Conejo Valley, and the majority of residents don't care.

Favors parcel tax for school district
Regarding the April 10 article, "School board gives parcel tax no chance," Conejo Valley Unified School District board members Dorothy Beaubien, Dolores Didio and Pat Phelps agreed that there was no chance that Thousand Oaks residents would vote for a $60 parcel tax, an amount that would give the district about $2.5 million.

Let the people decide about a possible parcel tax
I'm a parent of two University Elementary students. Since the announcement that University was on the list for closure, I've understood and accepted the idea that my kids' school is closing. I've also wanted to believe that the process to come to that decision by the school board was fair despite things I read and heard from the community.

Brochure from Audra Strickland is called 'hate mail'
Why is hate mail from Audra Strickland being mailed to me and all voters in the 37th Assembly District at California taxpayers' expense? This week Ireceived a mailer from Assemblymember Strickland that I find extremely offensive.

Writer lied about staying positive
This is in response to Tina Aschenbrenner's letter in the April 10 T.O. Acorn ("Let's keep it positive- - for once.") It's interesting how you stated in your letter "I'm writing my letter completely free of complaints and negativity.

Critic owes a debt of gratitude to George W. Bush
Again I feel I must correct the inaccuracies of Ms. Aschenbrenner in her April 10 letter. The "what bugs us" editorial piece you referred to was almost a year ago, hardly recent as you mentioned. Hillary Clinton is not the first woman to "run for this prestigious office." She isn't even the second or third.

It's too early at 7 a.m. for mowers and leaf blowers
I moved to this area two years ago and settled in Newbury Park because I was attracted to the community. However I've found myself faced with a situation that may drive me and other likeminded residents out of this neighborhood.

Thanks for helping the CROP Walk
Records were broken in the March 9 CROP Walk. CROP is an acronym for Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty. The 30th year celebration attracted more than 700 walkers and raised over $51,000. The majority of proceeds goes to Church World Service to assist its effort to alleviate hunger and despair in the darkest areas of the world.
