Traffic Initiative lets residents say no to bad projects
      I've read with interest the numerous arguments against June's Traffic Congestion Initiative. However, every argument is spurious. First, the initiative is obviously not really about traffic. It is the public's vehicle to halt a senseless project- - the construction of a second Home Depot in Thousand Oaks.

      I'm voicing my opinion about public speakers at the City Council meetings. It's a very negative place to be, and I don't feel it's fair for council members to push us off. Money and power are the name of the game. Unless you give them millions of dollars, they won't even listen to you.

      I'd like to respond to the letter from a parent who encouraged other parents to ask for independent study packets from teachers when families go on vacation. I've been teaching for nine years, and during that time I've seen quite a change in student attendance in my classes.
