Couple losing home organizes group to help others cope with foreclosure

Moving Forward, a nonprofit peer-based support group for distressed homeowners, will meet from 7 to 8:15 p.m. Fri., April 4 at St. Matthew's United Methodist Church, 1360 S. Wendy Drive, Newbury Park.

The group meets on the first and third Friday of every month.

The group strives to help homeowners cope with the stresses created by the foreclosure process and to educate homeowners about available options during foreclosure.

A licensed marriage and family counselor/therapist will be present at select meetings to help homeowners cope with emotional issues.

Future meetings will present industry professionals as guest speakers to discuss real estate issues, bankruptcy and avoiding foreclosure scams.

Moving Forward was created by Newbury Park homeowners Mike and Kristin Bertrand, who are losing their house to foreclosure.

For details, call Mike Bertrand at (805) 490-6818 or e-mail mike@wearemovingforward.org.
