Newbury Park man, 38, apparent victim of homicide

Police were suspicious when they found Jorge Zavala, 38, dead in his home in the 1600 block of Calle Diamonte in Newbury Park.

Zavala's landlord called police to the condominium on March 21 to check on Zavala's well-being after the resident hadn't been seen for a few weeks, Detective Eric Buschow said.

Upon entering the condominium at 11:23 a.m. police discovered the body of a deceased male. Major crimes investigators from the Ventura County Sheriff 's Department were called to handle the investigation at the scene.

The cause of Zavala's death was multiple injuries and the manner of death was homicide, according to Dep. Medical Examiner Michael Teller.

How the multiple injuries were sustained, the time of death and other information about the suspected crime aren't being released at this time due to an ongoing homicide investigation by police, Tellez said.
