Traffic initiative deserves to go down in flames
      We've come together as present and former leaders in Thousand Oaks to ask you to oppose Measure B when it comes to the ballot in June. As with many initiatives that hit the ballot these days, Measure B sounds as if it's about one thing that will appeal to voters: decreasing traffic.

Schools are like businesses: Only the strong survive
      It is indeed sad that parents are faced with the closure of their favorite schools. The sense of loss and upheaval to their routine and that of their children is most unfortunate and possibly unnecessary because there's a larger question and issue still unaddressed by us: What is causing this decline in enrollment?

Dunn responsive to her inquiry, others weren't
      On Nov. 1, Mr. Dan Goldberg wrote the first of a series of letters regarding the unusual and harsh expulsion of his son from Los Cerritos Middle School. Since we know the family and were among a number of concerned friends of the Goldbergs, I wrote each and every school board member listed on the Conejo Valley Unified School District website.

Independent study a way to take kids on trips out of town
      This is in response to the letter by Dia Marik who was concerned that she cannot take her kids out of school without being marked truant. I have had a very different experience and I hope this helps. There's a contract called the Independent Study Master Contract.

Get a neighbor to pick up your unwanted fliers
      Responding to Nancy Needham's March 20 article about homeowners' frustrations over handbills, dodgers and printed materials distribution, they aren't a public nuisance. A public nuisance is somebody parking an RV in your driveway or in front of your house.
