CLU's School of Education dean to retire in May

Terence R. Cannings is retiring as dean at California Lutheran University, where he has led the School of Education since 2005. His retirement on May 31 will mark the close of a 46year career in education.

Before coming to CLU, Cannings served as dean of the School of Education and Behavioral Sciences at Azusa Pacific University for three years and as associate dean of education at Pepperdine University for nine years.

Carol A. Bartell will return to CLU to serve as dean for two years. The Moorpark resident will lead the School of Education through a joint reaccreditation visit by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education and the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.

A national search for a permanent dean will be conducted following the accreditation process.
