Testing the balance of her memory bank
      UNUSUAL NAME, UNUSUAL GAME- Sequoia Middle School student Busy Rylander, 13, tries to memorize as many numbers of pi as she can at the ninth annual Sequoia Middle School Pi Night, sponsored by the math department. Last Friday's event was free and included more than 20 tables with math-related games and activities. Other Conejo schools also have Pi Nights.

Construction firm hosts career day for high school students
      Bagwell Construction Services hosted a career day on March 18 for students from Thousand Oaks and Westlake high schools. David Bagwell, president and CEO of the company, led students in what he calls a "typical day in the life of a general contractor.

Jogging for his favorite school
      RUNNING FOR BUCKS- Justin Casas, a fourth-grader at Weathersfield Elementary School, gets musical accompaniment from the school band as he participates in the 20th annual jogathon. The school was shooting for $13,000 during last week's event, and the money will be spent on computers and music and art programs.

Weathersfield Elementary School is awarded for teaching technology
      Weathersfield Elementary School in Thousand Oaks recently received a $2,000 Teach Award from Best Buy Co. Inc. for integrating interactive technology into its curriculum. For the past 10 years kindergarten teacher Lynn Quick has been developing a technologybased phonics program to teach the primary students at Weathersfield how to read.

      Instrumental music students from Westlake High School will perform March 24 at Carnegie Hall in New York City. Conductor and composer Johan de Meij will conduct the band.

      BORN TO RUN- Glenwood Elementary School second-graders Joel Vazquez, left, 8, and Morgan Finestone, 7, run laps during the school's jog-athon. Last Friday's event generated money for programs at the school.

T.O. resident on dean's list
      Emma-Grace Dunbar of Thousand Oaks, a junior at Rider University, has been named to the school's dean's list for the fall 2007 semester. In addition, she was among 57 students named Andrew J. Rider Scholars for academic excellence. The award, named for the founder and first president of the institution, honors the top 1 percent of students.

Time Warner Cable seeks nominees for teacher awards
      Time Warner Cable is seeking entries for its 2008 National Teacher Awards. The long-standing program, now in its 19th year, recognizes classroom projects that use resources provided to schools by Time Warner Cable as a way to enhance the classroom learning experience for students and teachers.
