Sex offender conspicuous, but he has broken no laws
December 2006 Ventura County sheriff 's deputies from the East County Sexual Assault Unit are cautioning residents about a registered sex offender who has been panhandling in a Thousand Oaks shopping center.
According to a sheriff's department report, Kevin Perry, 27, was seen several days this week at a supermarket parking lot in the shopping center at Agoura Road and Village Glen with a sign saying: "$1 to talk to a real life pedophile: Ask me anything."
Perry, a transient, has been living in a redandsilver van. Messages written on the exterior of the van say, "gangstalking.com" and "I am a kind loving human," a police report said.
Deputies are continuing to check on Perry regularly as they patrol the area. Residents who've noticed the man at the shopping center have called the police, but police said they've determined Perry hasn't committed any crimes at the center. Sheriff's officials didn't release his criminal history except to note that he is a registered sex offender.
July 2006 Those who've been convicted of committing sex offenses are required to register as sex offenders so law enforcement can keep track of their whereabouts.
"Many concerned citizens have notified us about this situation, and the police are concerned about his behavior and want people to be aware of the situation," Senior Dep. Eric Buschow said.
