Weathersfield Elementary School in Thousand Oaks recently received a $2,000 Teach Award from Best Buy Co. Inc.

For the past 10 years kindergarten teacher Lynn Quick has been developing a technologybased phonics program to teach the primary students at Weathersfield how to read.

With the grant Quick will update her classroom computer with a new Macbook.

This year Best Buy gave awards of $2,000 to 1,300 to schools to sustain or enhance their educational programs. An additional 50 schools received $10,000 for technology-based programs they've implemented.

Over the past four years, nearly 5,000 schools nationwide have received $14 million in Teach Awards.
