American Red Cross Month is now being observed

2008-03-13 / Health & Wellness

March has been declared American Red Cross Month.

Throughout the month, 750 Red Cross chapters across the country will celebrate by holding special events, trainings and fundraisers to give people an opportunity to support the organization through donations of time, money or blood.

The Ventura County chapter will continue its capacity building campaign. During 2008, the local American Red Cross will focus on one Ventura County city per month. Residents and businesses in each city will be encouraged to increase their Disaster Action Team's capabilities.

Disaster Action Teams are made up of trained volunteers that respond at a moment's notice to disaster. Increasing these teams will allow the Red Cross to respond quickly and efficiently.

In addition, the local chapter is expanding its Camarillo facility. The new Camarillo "hub" will house staff operations, supplies, training facilities and the Disaster Operations Center.
