     WENDY PIERRO Acorn Newspapers LIFTOFF- Samantha, 3, left, and Christopher Kealey, 5, both of T.O., ride the Magic Carpet- a hovercraft powered by a leaf blower during the "Is it Magic or is it Science?" event. The activity on Sunday was presented by the Discovery Center Teens at the Goebel Senior Center in Thousand Oaks. It included 15 hands-on science activities and a magic show.

Local makes dean's list in Connecticut
      Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Conn., has announced that Megan Spehar of Thousand Oaks has earned dean's list honors for the fall semester. In order to receive the honor, a student must have a gradepoint average of 3.6, based on a 4.0 scale.

Bad things happen
      My wife and I are trying to teach our 4yearold son the difference between right and wrong. Out of nowhere came the perfect example of wrong. Last week, my wife walked onto campus (she's a middle school teacher) with her fairly new iPhone. That phone had been one of the single biggest treats she'd received since . . . since marrying me.

Summer program comes to St. Pat's
      St. Patrick's Episcopal Day School will hold a new Summer Express program from 9 a.m. to noon June 23 through July 18. The four-week program provides enrichment classes for students entering grades one through six this fall.
