Two arrested in connection with assault
Jaime Olmos Two men were arrested and charged with conspiring to commit murder after a woman pregnant with an 11-week-old fetus was punched in the abdomen during what appeared at first to be a robbery, a police report said.
Jaime Olmos, reportedly the pregnant woman's boyfriend, allegedly took her to a secluded part of Newbury Park after a dinner date in Thousand Oaks on Jan. 10 and waited for two other men to come and hit the woman in the abdomen during a staged robbery.
Olmos is suspected of hiring the two men to kill the fetus.
"This is a very disturbing case. I don't know how else to describe it, but very disturbing," Ventura County Sheriff 's Department spokesperson Jerry Hernandez said.
The woman sought medical attention at a local hospital. A medical exam revealed there was no trauma to the baby, a police report said.
Police arrested Oxnard residents Olmos, 20, and Michael Navarrete, 19, and are still searching for a third suspect.
Olmos was arrested on Jan. 15 and is being held at the PreTrial Detention Facility in lieu of $5-million bail. Navarrete was arrested on Jan. 25 and is at the same facility in lieu of $500,000 bail.
Michael Navarrete A third male suspect has yet to be positively identified. Anyone with information should call Detective Allen Devers at (805) 494-8201 or (805) 494-8222.
