La Reina banking on a late-season push
Girls' soccer squad looks to regain winning form
      Although the La Reina High girls' soccer team plays in a tough Tri-Valley League, the Regents are hoping a healthier squad and a string of home games on its new pitch can help turn things around in the second half of the season.

      Julie Miller isn't the best player on the Westlake High girls' water polo team, but she may be the most beloved. When Miller scored her second goal of the season during last Friday's home match against Moorpark, her Warrior teammates went wild, and the patsontheback didn't stop until well after Westlake's (5-10, 3-5 in league) easy win.

U.S. water polo teams to take on Canada this Saturday at Rio Mesa

      A fan of the USA water polo teams can book a flight from Los Angeles to Beijing to see the 2008 Summer Olympics in August. The trip is nearly 13 hours and 6,257 miles. Or, fans can save a few bucks and watch the teams play in Ventura County this weekend.

      Want to see what it takes to be a great water polo player? You can catch the U.S. men's team working out during the following days. Times are subject to change without notice. Sessions are free to attend. Mondays - 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at CLU, 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Oaks Christian.

Mannisto named to All-State first team
      Westlake High senior place kicker/punter Jordan Mannisto has been selected to the All-State first team by CalHiSports.com. Mannisto averaged 41.4 yards per punt this season for the Warriors and converted 9of12 field goal attempts, including three kicks of more than 50 yards.

TOHS grad's stock skyrocketed in recent weeks
      Practice starts Monday for Major League Soccer's No. 1 overall draft pick. Not to worry, though, because Chance Myers, the Thousand Oaks High graduate who was selected by the Kansas City Wizards with the first choice in the MLS SuperDraft last weekend in Baltimore, says he's ready to go to work.
