      The 'Stockdale Paradox' and the human side of school closure Jim Collins in his book "Good to Great" referred to several qualities of greatness. He called one of those qualities the 'Stockdale Paradox,' an ability to face the brutal facts with the faith that we will be successful in the end.

Elvis to help WHS band to reach Carnegie Hall
      The Westlake High School band will sponsor a performance by a well-known Elvis tribute artist at 7:30 p.m. Sat., Jan. 19 at the Thousand Oaks High School Performing Arts Center at 2323 N. Moorpark Road in Thousand Oaks.

Westlake High School kids march in Rose Parade honor band
      There were some familiar faces marching up Colorado Boulevard in the 119th Tournament of Roses Parade, held New Year's Day in Pasadena. Four Westlake High School students were among the 240 members of the Pasadena City College Tournament of Roses Honor Band.

Fitness a factor in limbo dancing
      HOW LOW CAN HE GO?- Lucas Sabin, 9, a fourth-grader at Ladera Elementary School, dances the limbo during an event at the school. Classes are back in session after winter break but the kids will get another day of vacation on Mon., Jan. 21, Martin Luther King Day.

Thinking about transferring?
      As college students come home for the holiday break, some of them will be convinced they don't want to go back. Freshmen who have had a difficult time adjusting to college may decide they are at the wrong school. Leaving home is a major transition, and some students just need more time and support before they feel comfortable on campus.
