Max Shapiro was called to the Torah as a bar mitzvah on Jan. 5 at Temple Etz Chaim in Thousand Oaks

He's the son of Lisa and Marc Shapiro of Newbury Park and a seventhgrade honor student at Sequoia Middle School.
