Recitals planned for T.O. Philharmonic
The Thousand Oaks Philharmonic (formerly The Concertos with Orchestra, Thousand Oaks) starts its 2008 season with a series of fundraising performances called The Solo Recital Project II, which will feature alumni Philharmonic soloists in recitals at the Marian Hall for the Performing Arts at Lynn Ranch, 1304 Marian Ave., Thousand Oaks.
All recitals begin at 7 p.m. except the final Sunday matinee recital at 3 p.m.
Members of the Philharmonic board will give a 15minute prerecital lecture focusing on the evening's program.
•Tonight, Thurs., Jan. 3, Gary Chan, 17, is featured in a solo piano recital. Chan, a senior at Agoura High School, will play works by J.S. Bach, Beethoven, Ravel, Rachmaninoff and Balakirev.
•The recital on Fri., Jan. 4 will feature flutist Christy Kim and bassoonist Andrew Marlin. Both artists are 17 and seniors at Westlake High School. They will play Mozart, Vivaldi and Weber, accompanied by pianist Paul Switzler.
•Violinist Joshua Hong, 17, and a senior at Crossroads School, has selected works by Paganini, Mozart, J. S. Bach, Corigliano and Sarasate for his recital on Sat., Jan. 5.
•Concluding the series on Sun., Jan. 6 at 3 p.m. will be pianist Sean Y. Chen, 19, a sophomore at The Juilliard School. Chen will give a preview of the two recitals he will perform in Miami for the National Chopin Foundation later in the month. His program will include works by J. S. Bach, Rachmaninoff, Scriabin, Ligeti and Chopin.
These concerts are fundraisers for the Thousand Oaks Philharmonic. Tickets are $25 for adults and $10 for students, or $100 for the entire series.
Each concert will include a silent auction, and the winners will be announced at the end of the final recital.
