Outrage over traffic won't go away The people of Thousand Oaks have spoken. Intelligent residents are tired of the city taking a turn for the worse under the leadership of the current council majority. No one can argue that the past few years have brought us increased crime, smog, traffic congestion and excessive building heights. I commend Messrs. Sedihgi and DeFranco, the citizens who have put forth the popular petition requiring a vote of the people when a project comes before the city that will increase traffic congestion to below a "C" standard. To me, this is democracy at its finest. Allowing the people of our city to have a voice in what happens to the community, instead of the current council railroading projects through, is a necessary safeguard to protect our quality of life. This initiative may also protect us from the plan to build multiuse high rises on Thousand Oaks Boulevard; this so that a few boulevard property owners can maximize their financial investment while the public pays the price. I predict that the council majority will either manipulate the language or enforcement of the ballot measure or put forth a less restrictive competing ballot measure to confuse voters. T.O. residents: Don't be fooled. Amy Walker-Davis Westlake Village Walker-Davis is a former city planning commissioner. |
