Old light fixtures to be replaced

The Ventura County Regional Energy Alliance recently awarded $5,776 to the Conejo Recreation and Park District as an incentive payment to replace 38 older light fixtures in the Thousand Oaks Center gymnasium with new, more energyefficient fixtures.

In September Sylvania Lighting Services replaced 38 400-watt metal halide high bay fixtures with the same number of more energy efficient T5 fixtures at a cost of $14,440.

It is estimated the new fixtures will save the district approximately 40,300 kilowatthours annually and $5,639 per year in energy, maintenance and air conditioning costs.

"Not only did we get more efficient lighting with a small payback, we received better quality lighting," said Tom Hare, administrator for parks and planning at the district.

This is the second such project the district has completed in partnership with the alliance. Overall, the district has received nearly $9,000 in incentives from the alliance. Through these projects, the district is saving an estimated 63,000 kilowatthours annually and $8,800 per year in costs.
