Girl Scouts collect items for troops overseas

Girl Scout Brownie Troop 200, based in the Wildwood area of Thousand Oaks, conducted a neighborhood care package drive to collect items for frontline troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Each girl handed out empty grocery bags to friends and neighbors with a list of items needed for troops overseas. Requested items included snack items, Halloween candy, personal care items, DVDs, CDs and magazines.

The girls collected more than 70 grocery bags filled with various supplies. All supplies were donated to the nonprofit organization For the Troops to help them achieve their goal of sending more than 1,000 care packages for the holidays to servicemen and women in Iraq and Afghanistan.

For the Troops is described as a nonpolitical organization whose sole purpose is to support frontline troops. Care packages are sent directly to individual soldiers.
