Lutheran church announces Advent services

Ascension Lutheran Church announces special services for the Advent season in preparation for Christmas. The public is invited and there is no charge to attend unless otherwise noted.

•The "Hanging of the Greens" is described as an old English custom of decorating God's house with evergreens on the first Sunday in Advent.

The Senior Luther League will host a "Hanging of the Greens" dinner from 5 to 6 p.m. Sun., Dec. 2, followed by decorating at 6:30 p.m.

The dinner menu includes meatballs, mashed potatoes, homemade lefsa and dessert. Tickets are $7 adults, $6 children or $30 family tickets (two adults, three children).

•The Carillons Concert is at 7 p.m. Sun., Dec. 9. The church's Junior High bell choir and the handbell choirs of St. Matthew's United Methodist Church will be special guests. A freewill offering will be accepted.

•The Ascension Church Choir, along with full orchestra, narrators and soloists, will present a Christmas Cantata at the 8 and 9:30 a.m. services on Sun., Dec. 16.
