Student safety depends on rules being obeyed

In response to the "Rules must be interpreted fairly" letter from Sheri Hancock in the Nov. 8 Thousand Oaks Acorn, would you be happier if the school principal said the rules of no weapons at school were only for poorer students who weren't beautiful?

If you read the events of the past, where weapons were used to harm and even kill at schools, the felons weren't always poor students. In fact, some were brilliant and (they) still killed.

The real problem is making each student aware. Social awareness is a skill that every student needs to learn. When her brother handed her the keys, both should have been aware that a weapon was included.

Your daughter learned a difficult lesson and needs to work on making it a positive part of her learning experiences.

Nothing could be worse than a principal ignoring a student with a weapon and another person (being) severely injured with that weapon.

All children at school should be safe, and we all need to support principals when they support rules that make schools safer. Phyllis Benson Thousand Oaks
