Has no sympathy for critics of the park district who live in Dos Vientos The Thousand Oaks Acorn has published several letters from privileged residents of Dos Vientos who feel they've been put upon by the local parks agencies regarding their plans for making Rancho Potrero accessible to all residents of Thousand Oaks. The Conejo Open Space Conservation Agency (COSCA) workshop on July 2 described the conceptual plan and gave us, the public, the opportunity to comment. Folks who identified themselves as living in Dos Vientos had three gripes with the project: Their vista would be spoiled by the improvements that would be needed to enable others to easily access the area; they would be inconvenienced by an increase in traffic; and they were afraid that noise from the picnic pavilion would disturb them. Having lived within a block of Lynn Road and Wendy Drive for the past 14 years, I have little sympathy for their selfish issues with traffic and noise. To deal with the huge increase in traffic since Dos Vientos was developed, all the four-way stops on Lynn Road south of the 101 Freeway have been replaced by traffic lights, as have several previous two-way stops. While there used to be almost complete quiet, I can now hear traffic on Lynn Road at any time of the night, including trucks using their brakes early in the morning. If there were no Dos Vientos residents, those of us who really live in Newbury Park would have less noise and traffic to deal with. But that's part of progress. I'm truly disappointed that my Dos Vientos neighbors are opposed to a facility that would enable Thousand Oaks families to get outdoors and enjoy our wonderful parklands and open areas.
Who can tell how many kids would be inspired to give up
their video games for the beauty of nature on our many trails? | |||||
