Flour power brings in 'bread' for Maple Elementary

Maple Elementary School of Newbury Park won the competition for the opportunity to bake, bag and sell bread and cookies at Great Harvest's "Baker for a Day" event on Sunday.

The school kept 100 percent of the sales from that day and will use the proceeds to help fund a new science lab.

Great Harvest donated the ingredients, labor and overhead for making the baked goods.

The school garnered almost 1,400 votes from customers at the bakery to win the competition.

Great Harvest is at 2092-H Newbury Road in the Vons/ Longs shopping center.
