Mann backs out, another cinema center steps in to run The Oaks mall theaters Mann Theatres is no longer slated to operate the new upscale theater venue under construction at The Oaks mall. Instead, Muvico Entertainment will open its first West Coast theater at The Oaks in fall 2008. Mann refocused its business plan, said Rebecca Stenholm, spokesperson for mall owner Macerich Co. The 14screen, 74,000squarefoot stadium-seating theaters will be the anchor of the mall's openair expansion that will include restaurants. The theaters are expected to have the latest in digital sound and projection technology, including Sony Premier 4K high definition, Stenholm said. Muvico will offer a playroom for children ages 3 to 8. When their parents attend movies, the children will be offered supervised games, movies and crafts. Popcorn shrimp and bite-size burgers will be included in the concession menu. Those over 21 who are willing to pay extra to attend one of the four VIP theaters will have a private entry, curbside valet and access to Bogart's, a full-service upscale restaurant and bar. The Muvico Theaters at The Oaks also will host alternative content, including sporting events and live music feeds. Muvico Entertainment LLC is a Floridabased chain that operates 259 screens in 14 locations in Florida, Maryland, Illinois and Tennessee. - Nancy Needham |
