Harvest Festival celebrates environment

The Open Classroom of Conejo Elementary School will host the 13th annual Harvest Festival from 8:30 a.m. to 2:35 p.m. Fri., Nov. 16 at Conejo Community Park, 1175 Hendrix Ave. (Gainsborough entrance). In the event of rain, the event will move to the Thousand Oaks Teen Center, 1375 E. Janss Road.

The program is a culminating activity for the Environmental Responsibility unit of study for students in kindergarten through sixth grade. For the past six weeks, the students have learned about the various ways they can be more environmentally responsible.

At the Harvest Festival, parents will lead five student centers from 8:30 to noon with the topics of Food and Our Planet, Nature Center, Composting and Recycling, Alternative Power and Bag the Plastic.

After the centers close, the students will sing and eat a potluck lunch.

The Open Classroom program, located on the campus of Conejo Elementary School, is a districtwide, school choice program for students in K through 6. Parents participate in the classroom and work with the teachers to create an environment of hands-on learning.
