Events shouldn't set bad examples I enjoy reading the T.O. Acorn to hear what's happening in the community. In the Oct.11 issue, there was an article and picture titled "A sticky situation." Apparently as part of a fundraising event at University Elementary School, the students were rewarded by duct taping the principal, Jeff Rickert, to a pole. After they were done taping him to the pole, the chair that the principal was standing on was removed. This left him hanging on the pole. I'm appalled that this kind of activity is considered appropriate. Young children tend to mimic what is learned. What if they try this at home with a sibling or a pet? What kind of message is being taught here? I strongly advise school leaders to find a more appropriate way to reward children. Jan Moon Thousand Oaks |
