Environmentalist again exaggerates It still amazes me that anyone other than an extremist environmental deviant takes Mary Wiesbrock of Save Open Space seriously. Having served on COSCA for four years, I have a reasonably good understanding of the natural preservation of Rancho Potrero, not to mention decades of running and biking in this beautiful preserve. Wiesbrock uses the term "200person party pavilion" as though there will be massive invasions and destruction to the area. This is exactly the type of controlled activity that will allow folks who might not have the opportunity to enjoy this area. They don't hike, bike, run, walk or have the physicality to participate. It's absurd to make comments such as "having a couple of picnic tables in a few locations" so families can enjoy the open space. Who made Wiesbrock the czar of family enjoyment for open space? A comment about mountain lions: during the decades of entering this park I have encountered one mountain lion the entire time. I felt lucky to see one and to not have a close encounter with the cat. They tend to stay away from folks, much less join them for a picnic or a 200-person party. Ask this question: Wiesbrock was a huge opponent to Dos Vientos. Does anyone want to scrap the homes and give it back to the habitat? Dan Del Campo Lake Nacimiento, Calif. Del Campo formerly served on the Thousand Oaks City Council. |
