Girl, 8, two adults stabbed in pair of bloody break-ins A teenager is suspected of entering two Newbury Park homes in the middle of the night last week and stabbing two adults and a sleeping 8-year-old girl. Kyle Rubin, 19, allegedly let himself into a house in the 400 block of Blackhawk Drive just after 3 a.m. Oct. 25, grabbed a knife from the kitchen and went upstairs to the master bedroom, where he found a couple sleeping. He allegedly stabbed the man in the back and left the residence when the woman screamed. The woman called 911, a police report said. About 30 minutes after deputies arrived at the house, a call came in reporting another burglary and stabbings less than half a mile away on Danville Avenue, Detective Allen Devers said. When police arrived at the Danville Avenue home, a man was restraining Rubin. Rubin had allegedly let himself inside and, again armed with a kitchen knife, entered a bedroom, where he stabbed an 8-year-old girl as she slept. Her mother went into her room to check on her when she heard whimpering. As she entered the girl's room, the mother was grabbed from behind and her neck was cut by a knife, a police report said. When her husband heard the commotion, he came to their aid, fighting with the intruder until he was able to subdue him, police officials said. The girl, who was seriously injured in the attack, was transferred to Northridge Hospital Medical Center after undergoing surgery at Los Robles Hospital and Medical Center in Thousand Oaks. Rubin allegedly had entered another house in the 400 block of Blackhawk Drive through an open garage but was unable to get inside the home because the door to the interior of the house was locked. "It appears a locked door was enough to deter him," Devers said. It's unknown at this time if there were attempts by the suspect to gain entry into other homes. Police suspect Rubin was on drugs at the time of his arrest. The investigation is continuing, Devers said. Police listed Rubin as a transient, but he'd recently lived with family in the area where the crimes occurred, Devers said. Rubin was arrested on three counts of attempted murder and three counts of residential burglary. He's being held without bail at the pretrial detention facility in Ventura. Ventura County Superior Court records show Rubin has one misdemeanor conviction for possession of alcohol in a vehicle when he was 18. | |||||
