Mobile mammography unit to make its debut Sunday

The Breast Cancer Prevention Fund recently awarded the Ventura County Cancer Task Force $100,000 for the Health Care Agency Mobile Mammography Project, sponsored by the Ventura County Medical Resource Foundation.

"I am so proud to receive these funds that will greatly enhance our outreach through the Mobile Mammography Project. This project will reach many uninsured women and provide mammography for early detection of breast cancer and will save lives," said Ventura County Supervisor Kathy Long.

The Breast Cancer Prevention Fund was founded several years ago in response to the need for affordable mammograms for underserved women in Washington state. Long was contacted by the fund after learning of local efforts to establish a mobile mammography program for underserved women.

The first Mobile Mammography Project Clinic will launch on Sun., Oct. 28 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Camarillo Health Care District, 3639 E. Las Posas Road, Camarillo. For information about scheduling, call (805) 388-1952, ext. 168.

Additional clinics throughout the county will be announced soon. For more information about the program, call the Ventura County Health Care Agency at (805) 677-522
