Girl arrested in bomb threat

Ventura County Sheriff's Department investigators arrested a 14-year-old La Reina High School student on Wed., Oct. 3 in connection with a bomb threat that was made at the school on Oct. 2.

The student suspect was identified with the help of school officials, one of whom specializes in handwriting analysis. After comparing the written diatribe to students' writing assignments, school officials identified a possible match.

After being interviewed by investigators and school officials, the girl was booked and released to her parents' custody, charged with one felony violation of making a false bomb threat.

The case will be forwarded to the district attorney's office for possible prosecution.

This was the second arrest of a student in Thousand Oaks in the past two weeks regarding false bomb threats at a high school. The previous incident occurred at Newbury Park High School.

Parents could be held financially responsible for the cost of the emergency response that was necessary, which may total several thousand dollars.

The incident at La Reina required a mutual aid response involving several agencies including the Ventura County Fire Department.
