Monarchs win big in Michigan

Two elite-level gymnasts from Monarchs National Gymnastics Training Center competed in the U.S. Challenge in Battle Creek, Mich., in July.

It was the first time gymnasts from the Conejo Valley attended the competition. Monarchs was represented by sisters Carinne, 12, and Alyssa Gale, 14, of Simi Valley.

Alyssa won a gold medal on vault with a high score of 14.4.

The sisters are preparing for the next round of competition in Las Vegas in January, 2008.

Last month, gymnastic teams in levels 4, 5 and 6 competed in Culver City. Levels 4 and 5 each won second-place team awards. Many of the girls individually won gold, silver and bronze medals in various events.

First-place medal winners are Brenna Cavanaugh,7, Thousand Oaks; Riley Harris, 7, Thousand Oaks; Makenna Maimin, 11, Woodland Hills; Natalie Bevilacqua, 9, Calabasas; Allison Brewer, 8, Newbury Park; Jesslyn Fernandez, 8, Woodland Hills; Hannah Krieger, 9, Calabasas; Madison Maimin, 9, Woodland Hills; Devon Morris, 9, Westlake Village; Kylie Naveau, 12, Newbury Park.

Second-place medal winners are Jocelyn Brown, 15, Calabasas; Brenna Cavanaugh, Hannah Dye, 8, Thousand Oaks; Cassidy Harris, 7, Simi Valley; Riley Harris, Shelby Krause, 12, Calabasas; Natalie Bevilacqua, Allison Brewer, Danielle LaCorte, 8, Calabasas; Devon Morris; Alexis Ramirez, 9, Thousand Oaks; and Mikayla Epperson, 11, Agoura Hills.
