Service to celebrate heroic little boy's life

A public memorial service for 6-year-old Sev'n Molina, who was slain Aug. 12 while trying to protect his mother from an attacker will be held at 5:30 p.m. Fri., Oct. 12 at Calvary Community Church in Westlake Village.

Sandra Ruiz, Sev'n's mom, has said she "was so overwhelmed and grateful for the outpouring of sympathy and generosity by people I don't even know, it feels only natural that the community be invited to celebrate his life with me and my family."

A Sept. 18 basketball fundraiser between Ventura County firefighters and sheriff's deputies at Newbury Park High School raised more than $8,000, which was donated to the Sandra Ruiz Family Fund.

Additional donations may still be made to: The Ventura District Attorney's Crime Victims Assistance Program-Ruiz Family; and mailed to Catherine Duggin, 800 S. Victoria Ave., Ventura, CA 93009.

For further information, call the Rev. Steve Day, pastor of Calvary Community Church, at (818) 575-2289. The church is situated at 5495 Via Rocas.
