Apply to become Master Gardener

The UC Cooperative Extension is seeking Ventura County residents who are interested in becoming Master Gardeners next year.

No degree or training is needed, only a desire to learn horticulture and share this knowledge through volunteer service in the community.

Volunteer work includes hosting field trips for children, working at historic garden sites, building community gardens and sponsoring booths at community events.

Interested applicants must attend one of two orientations to receive an application.

The meetings will be Thurs., Oct. 11 from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tues., Oct. 16 from 2 to 4 p.m. Both meetings will take place at the UCCE offices, 669 County Square Drive, ste. 100, Ventura.

The training program will be held Thursday afternoons for five months beginning January 2008 at the UCCE Ventura Office and the UC Hansen Agriculture Center at the Faulkner Farm in Santa Paula on Thursday afternoons.

For reservations, call Leah Haynes at (805) 6451450 or email lihaynes@ucdavic.edu.
