Marathon runner hit, killed by car

Westlake Village resident Carl Hossli, 76, was killed when a car hit him while he was running across a driveway of the Westlake Bay condominium complex in the 1200 block of Westlake Boulevard.

Marilyn Sklar, 73, was traveling south on Westlake Boulevard before she turned left into the driveway and hit Hossli, said Thousand Oaks police Sgt. Tom Bennett.

The accident occurred at about 3:40 p.m. Sept. 25. Hossli was taken to Los Robles Hospital and Medical Center by ambulance. He was pronounced dead at 5:07 p.m. He died from blunt force injuries, said Ormando Chavez, Ventura County senior deputy medical examiner.

Sklar was not injured in the incident, and neither drugs nor alcohol appeared to be a factor in the accident, according to police.

Police are still investigating to determine the cause and to find out who was at fault, Bennett said. The driver was not cited at the scene.

"We never do that at the scene. A lot of work goes on afterward during the investigation," Bennett said.

Hossli, a marathon runner, was the oldest man to participate in the 2006 World Famous Mud Run at Camp Pendleton.
