Department of Education awarded for website

The California Department of Education received national recognition for its web-based system that helps students with disabilities access school curriculum, according to Jack O'Connell, state superintendent of public instruction.

The system, Clearinghouse for Specialized Media and Technology, won a 2007 Digital Education Achievement Award. Through the program, textbooks, workbooks and other school materials are made available in alternative formats, such as Braille, large print and audio recordings.
