Schools can reap rewards from bakery

Great Harvest Bread Company in Newbury Park invites area schools between grades K to 12 to apply for a chance to "own" the bakery for a day and keep all of the sales.

Schools can nominate themselves to be placed on a ballot. Customers will vote on the school they would most like to see run the bakery. Nomination forms were mailed to Conejo Valley schools and are also available in the bakery at 2092-11 Newbury Road.

Nominations will be accepted starting Mon., Oct. 1 and will be limited to the first 25 eligible schools that apply.

The winning school will take over the bakery from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sun., Nov. 11. Bakery staff will make bread and cookies and the school will supply volunteers to slice, bag and sell the baked goods.

Jim Costello, bakery owner, said, "Our store just celebrated its third anniversary, and I wanted to do something that would give back to the community that has helped us grow."
