On a recent Saturday, the Westlake High School instrumental music program unveiled a new 50-foot semitrailer as the flagship of its new corporate sponsor initiative in the Ralphs parking lot at the corner of Thousand Oaks and Westlake boulevards.

The event was attended by 300 people, including Ventura County Supervisor Linda Parks.

The program opened with a WHS string quartet, followed by the Westlake Regiment marching band, which features more than 100 performers.

The speakers included Lynn Garruto, president of the WHS instrumental music booster club, and Rob Woodward, corporate sponsor chair of the boosters and the driving force behind the trailer project.

John Zavada of the Guitar Center and Liz Wilson, district manager of the Ralphs/Food 4 Less Foundation, both presented the WHS instrumental music program with $10,000 checks.
