Roller skaters have a place to go I read the letter regarding the need for a roller-skating rink, and I couldn't help but write back. I've lived in Thousand Oaks for about 49 years, and I remember the roller-skating rink that was across from the old Kmart. I wanted to tell your readers that Thousand Oaks has a rollerskating rink. And it's been here for 11 years. It has great birthday parties, private parties, in-line hockey, as well as Roller Derby, a Numero Uno restaurant and all your favorite snacks. Every Friday night from 8 to 10:30 p.m. the DJ plays your favorite songs while lights dance around the floor. Let's not forget the games and couple skates. On Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 3:45 p.m. there's open skating, birthday party packages and Rolo Rue the Kangeroo makes his appearance and skates with you. It's great fun for the whole family. The hockey games are always free to watch whether it's adult games or children's games. We need to support our rink when so many are closing down because we just forget they're there. Remember drive-ins? They're extinct now. It's too bad because once you experience it you want to go again and again. Too many kids are hanging around with nothing to do but play video games, when they can be skating, enjoying music, getting exercise in a well-supervised atmosphere. If you're wondering, it's the Roller Dome. The phone number is (805) 493-8800. My name is Patty, and I happen to be recreation manager at the Roller Dome. Patty Ruiz Thousand Oaks |
