Newbury Park High hosts challenge

Having fun at the 'Big Cat Challenge'
The Rotary Club of Newbury Park and Newbury Park High School will present the fourth annual "Big Cat Challenge," from 7 a.m. to noon Sat., Oct. 20 at Newbury Park High School, 456 Reino Road, Newbury Park.

The Big Cat Challenge will feature 2k and 5k runs and walks, a 20-mile recreational bike ride through Hidden Valley, a "piedpiper" walk for children in preschool through kindergarten, a health fair, a pancake breakfast, live entertainment and a Kids' Zone with games.

Cyclists will start their ride at 8:15 a.m. at the high school and ride through Conejo and Hidden valleys before finishing back at the school. Rest stops and first aid will be available along the route.

Participants of the 2k and 5k run/walks will start and finish at the school track, following a route along surrounding roads. The course is moderate to challenging.

Start time for the 5k run/walk is 8:15 a.m. and 9 for the 2k run/ walk.

The piedpiper walk for toddlers through children age 8 will be one lap around the track and will start at 9 a.m. All participants will receive a medal.

There will be an awards ceremony at 10 a.m.

The health fair will feature health, fitness and wellness vendors.

Adult registration is $25, $12 for children under 13. Family and senior discounts are offered. Entry fees include a T-shirt and photo of participant crossing finish line.

The price for the breakfast is $7. There is no charge for admission to the health fair, Kids' Zone and entertainment area.

Proceeds from the day will be distributed to eight Newbury Parkarea schools plus local benefactors through the Rotary Club of Newbury Park.
