Family historians map the past using Internet

The Ventura County Genealogical Society will hold its monthly meeting from 1 to 4 p.m. Sat., Sept. 15 at the Ventura LDS Family History Center, 3501 Loma Vista Road in Ventura.

Sandy Lewis, an engineering librarian for UCSB, will discuss "Mapping the past: a visual addition to your family history." She will show how to use online mapping tools in genealogical research.

Bill Shelton will lead a workshop in touching up digital photos; Marcie Maloney will show how to organize data; and Tom Shilton will host the computer lab. Guests are welcome to attend the free meetings. For more information, call Cathy at (805) 644-4753.

The society will conduct a seminar on Colonial America from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sat., Oct. 20. Linda Jonas will be the speaker. Registration fees are $30 for society members before Oct. 1 and $35 after that date. Nonmembers pay $40. Fees include lunch and seminar materials.
