Bill would require vets at rodeos
The California Assembly approved amendments to a bill, AB1614 that requires Mexican rodeos to have a veterinarian on call. This requirement is already a law for American rodeos.

The bill was sponsored by Action for Animals and the Humane Society of the United States, authored by Assemblymember Audra Strickland (R-Thousand Oaks) and coauthored by Assemblymember Joe Coto.

"When animals are placed at risk of injury solely for entertainment sake, it is highly appropriate that we require a veterinarian to be on call," said Strickland.

The bill was approved on a 63 to 8 vote by the full Assembly and will now be sent to Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's desk for signature.

Strickland represents the 37th Assembly District which includes Camarillo, Moorpark, Newbury Park, Simi Valley, Thousand Oaks and Westlake Village.
