One City, One Book event at CLU
"Inventing a New Life: the Sacred Journey of Grief in 'Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close'" will be held from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Thurs., Sept. 20 in the Lundring Events Center in the Gilbert Sports and Fitness Center at the corner of Olsen Road and Mountclef Boulevard.
The panel will discuss the spiritual, psychological and social dimensions of grieving depicted in Jonathan Safran Foer's fictional account of a 9-year-old boy coping with the aftermath of 9/11.
They will also explore the implications for finding inner peace in the face of chaotic national and world events.
Panelists will include English professors Jim Bond and Joan Wines and psychology professor Marylie Gerson.
All of CLU's freshmen were required to read the novel before they arrived on campus. This is the first time the book component of CLU's Freshman Year Experience program was linked with the community of Thousand Oaks.
The book was selected for the city's One City, One Book program.
