Families praised for training their dogs

Thank you so much for an excellent article illustrating a way for the family to participate in activities that include their dog ("Residents enjoy working with dogs" Aug. 16 Thousand Oaks Acorn).

So many people purchase a dog as the family pet but then forget that the dog requires training and exercise to have acceptable behavior.

Without training and exercise, owners have an outofcontrol animal, which then often gets sent to the pound to be euthanized.

Herding teaches the dog obedience, control and gives it exercise. It's a perfect sport for the kids to learn also and has junior competitions all the way up to the national level. Barbara Billig Westlake Village
