$2 million sound wall approved in consent calendar

BILL SPARKES/Acorn Newspapers Noise abatement for Wendy and the 101 Freeway has been approved
A $2-million project to build a sound wall at the intersection of the 101 Freeway and Wendy Drive in Newbury Park was unanimously approved by City Council.

The 4-0 vote, with Mayor Andy Fox absent, was taken during the consent calendar portion of the July 24 council meeting.

According to the council's agenda, the consent calendar includes matters considered to be routine.

About half of the expense will come from a Ventura County Transportation Committee grant, and the rest will come out of the city's general fund, according to public works director Mark Watkins.

Even though three of the 25 homes to be protected from the noise of the traffic are in the unincorporated county area, the county refused to contribute threetwentyfifths of the cost, Watkins said.
