Residents die in slaying, suicide at convention

Thousand Oaks residents Lisa Walsh, 43, and Harold Kent, 54, were found dead of gunshot wounds in Kent's room on the seventh floor of the San Diego Marriott Hotel and Marina.

At about 7:45 p.m. on Fri., July 6, a guest at the Marriott Hotel, 333 W. Harbor Drive, heard a woman screaming, followed by several gunshots in the room next to his.

Lt. Kevin Rooney, a homicide detective with the San Diego Police Department, said officers entered the seventh-floor room and found the bodies of Walsh and Kent inside. Paramedics confirmed that both were dead after what appeared to be a murdersuicide.

"Based on the position of the bodies and other evidence at scene, it appears the male shot the female to death before turning the weapon on himself," Rooney said.

Both were personal trainers at the Spectrum Club in Thousand Oaks and were attending a fiveday world fitness convention being hosted by the Marriott Hotel, adjacent to the city's convention center.

"Lisa Walsh had her own room in another hotel," Rooney said.

"They were co-workers who had been involved in a relationship in the past," he said.
