Let young people beautify the sound walls with a mural

Here's a thought on the 23 Freeway sound walls: instead of complaining how the taggers have already begun the onslaught of graffiti, maybe we should try to work with the local youth to come up with a mural.

I truly believe that many of these taggers have quite a bit of creative talent but no way to harness it. So why not allow them to show their work on one of the 23 Freeway sound walls? The city could come up with a contest for a design and theme, and start to recruit local youth and artists to display their true artistic talents.

I know this was done sometime ago in L.A. before the 1984 Olympics, and to this day many of these murals are still in place unscathed. Just my two cents on this seemly violate topic. Katrina Garcia Thousand Oaks
